Rockzillaworld -- web site mirror

How much can one fan of OKOM (Our Kind Of Music) accomplish in just a couple of years? Plenty, if it's Rockzilla, aka photographer Michael Johnson. From 2003 to 2005, rockzilla.net was a chronicle of the alt.country scene from a uniquely Texan perspective. But all good things must end, and Rockzilla has retired from the online 'zine scene.

This mirror site was copied from the rockzilla.net site with the express permission of Rockzilla hisself. If you don't believe me, go to the KHYI-Fans email list and ask him! Buddy will back me up, too.

 Music That Matters
Ed. Note: OK. We've had that little slogan on the mast for quite a while. "Shining a light upon music that matters." We're going to use this space to let you listen to some examples of music that we think matters a lot. In keeping with the season, our first little excursion into the land of the MP3 will focus on political tunes. We thank all of the artists represented below for allowing us to share their songs with you. They're pretty damned cool.

Eliza Gilkyson's "Hiway 9" comes straight from today's headlines. Click here to listen.

Kevin Welch offers up "Everybody's Working for the Man Again...." from the You Can't Save Everybody album. Click here to listen.

Jason Ringenberg offers up "American Question," from his new Empire Builders album. Click here to hear.

Guy Forsyth offers one of the best political tunes we've heard in a long time. Clever, sublte lyrics that even a staunch Republican can enjoy listening to-- right up to that last line! Click here to listen to "You Let Him Take Advantage of You."

Richard Shindell performs Pete Seeger's "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy off of his newest album, Vuelta. CBS refused to allow Seeger to perform the song on The Smothers Brothers show in 1967. He finally did sing it on the final show in 1968. Click here to go there.

Macon Greyson recorded the song "Design" on their last album, Uneasy. Written by lead singer Buddy Huffman, this is a song with which a lot of folks can identify. You know. You're not sure just exactly what you believe, but By-God you believe it! Click here to listen to "Design."

Dallas, TX based Jay Johnson Band threatened to key our cars if we didn't include "41 Thing" off of the band's new Royalbluemoon" disc. We capitulated. Click here to listen
